The Data Analysis & School Improvement was a very instructional, interesting, useful and eye-opener class. I learned valuable information about Data that I could not have learned outside this class. I was introduced to the concept of a Data Team and Data Coach with the purpose of the Data Team being to collect and analyze different types of data, develop and adapt common assessment instruments, use the process and tools of data collection to identify student learning achievement, challenges and improvement areas, develop data-supported action plans that are aligned with the school’s vision and SIP. I now know how to put together a strong data team that focuses on meaningful analysis of the data and applying the findings to improve student achievement.
I also learned in this class the importance of data in informing, developing, and implementing instruction, and how this correlate to student achievement and how we can improve in closing the achievement gap among the different sub-groups of students by analyzing assessment data accurately. I learned how to gather different sources of data, analyze, and re-deliver this information to PL at the school level as well as the district level. I am well versed in the Using Data Process (UDP) and how this strategy can be applied districtwide.
The most valuable Field Experience completed in this class was the Data Overview. This FE gave me the opportunity to analyze real world data that directly impacted my school and the district. I really enjoyed this because it gave me the tools to analyze and apply the concepts learned in class in a real-life situation that will help improve instruction in my school. I will continue to apply what I have learned in class at my school by getting more involved in the data process, I have become a member of the SIP committee, and with this opportunity I will bring a fresh take on Data Analysis & School Improvement.
Some of the challenges that I foresee may be the lack of accurate data after the pandemic. During this time, we have not had a complete picture of what is really going on in our school, with attendance fluctuating every day. However, this will be a great opportunity to turn this challenge into a learning moment that we can discern what is meaningful accurate data versus what is not. This class has given me the tools to achieve just that, and ensure that the data we are using to drive instruction and implementation of assessments is accurate and meaningful.
