3.7 Communication & Collaboration
Candidates utilize digital communication and collaboration tools to communicate locally and globally with students, parents, peers, and the larger community. (PSC 3.7/ISTE 3g)
The Expanded Collaboration website was developed for ITEC 7602 Personalized Learning. The purpose of this artifact is to prove the importance of collaboration and communication with parents, students, and all stakeholders at school. My individual contribution was to conduct extensive research on the impact that a collaborative setting has in a classroom setting and how to learn from each other we should actively participate and communicate our ideas to those involved.
This artifact demonstrates mastery of the standard because the artifact shows how I utilize digital communication and collaboration tools such as Google Classroom, Canvas, Remind to communicate with parents and my students. This artifact demonstrates mastery of the standard because the artifact shows how I promote collaboration among students by designing lessons that require them to collaborate using Web 2.0 tools. Tools like Google Classroom, and Nearpod, contain a variety of tools that allow us to communicate locally as well as to collaborate at a global scale. Mastery is also demonstrated in the way that I use these tools to promote positive parental communication and collaboration so I can foster strong parental involvement in my class in an environment that is trustful and positive. I also utilize these tools to develop Social and Emotional Learning strategies in class with my students. I always encourage communication and collaboration among students in a safe environment that fosters identity-safe sharing, so the students can share as much or as little as they chose, knowing that they will be respected.
What I learned from completing this artifact is that it is important to surround ourselves with collaborative groups that share our intended goal, and the importance for the students to collaborate using digital media. Also, I learned, that it is important to create a safe and understanding environment for the students to express themselves without fear of being singled-out or mocked. What I would do differently is I would explore and expand my means of communication to include videos and podcasts, I would collect more input from the students on the topics they would like to address and how they would like to communicate their feelings and ideas.
The work that went into creating this artifact impacts school improvement, faculty development and student learning because I have a variety of collaborative tools that I have share the use with other members of the faculty, parents, and students. I have shared through lessons the Web 2.0 tools that I use to communicate with parents and how my students work together to solve problems through positive communication. This impact can be measured by looking at the data generated from the different digital media, such as Canvas Analytics. Nearpod generates data that can be used to measure the success of the lessons.
