Before I started this course I had an idea of what was Online/Blended Learning from personal experiences, however, I realized that most of what I knew was not accurate on what it takes to develop an online learning course. I believe that in the future a blended model approach will become more acceptable for education. This model will play a big part on education in the coming years because many careers require employees to work in a hybrid schedule.
Through the course I learned that blended learning requires many strategies and became very knowledgeable in several of them that I will implement in my classroom. One strategy I intend to utilize is the variety of online tools for communication and productivity for presenting the topics better. Performing research on all the online tools available has helped me incorporate online learning a bit better than I could in the past. I see the importance of the learning objectives and how instructional design can be a valuable tool when developing, designing and implementing online modules in my class.
At the beginning, my online modules did not follow the iNACOL standards for online learning, now I can use those standards as a guide on how to develop my online course utilizing a variety on online tools to better give the students the opportunity to master the standards of learning. Project-based learning has always been a part of my teaching, however, now I can implement the strategies learned in this course based on research-based strategies for online project-based assessments. It is now easier to facilitate differentiated instruction in an online class, and after learning about all the strategies that the online teachers use, when I saw the videos of the day of an online teacher, I will use these strategies to better create online learning modules using the online assistive technology tools. I will keep using the iNACOL standards and rubrics to develop my online modules in the fall. I have a tool for self-assessment that I can use as I develop my unit plans and modules. The assessment criteria for the course was very helpful after seeing the alignment with the learning objectives.
