Artifact: 7410 Grant Proposal
Reflection:
This Grant Proposal was created with the purpose to obtain Language Acquisition Software that would benefit English Language Learners as well as World Language students with their language acquisition skills. After my research, I found that the students would use the Extempore App to improve their communication, language comprehension, and cultural understanding skills. With the recommendation of this App, the students would be able to meet the standard in developing social and instructional communication, improving their communication and comprehension skills in the community as well as in the classroom.
During my research of this new technology, I discovered that this App would eliminate the need for expensive language labs, putting the technology directly in the student’s hands for use during, before or after school, making this mobile technology excellent for the language acquisition classroom. While researching several other programs, I realized that this App would be the best new technology to implement because it was important for me to recommend a Performance-Based capable App, because with the videos integrated in the App, the students will be graded on their performance and level of interest in the tasks. The students would access this tool from any device. This tool would be a great asset to ensure the ELL students’ success. This would provide high LoTi level lessons and also promote student collaboration through grouping for discussions.
The proposed budget for this technology was very appealing to me for when I recommend this new technology to the stakeholders. With the implementation of this policy the students will be impacted by improving their writing, reading, interpersonal, presentational, and interpretive communication skills. Their socio-cultural knowledge will also improve because of the diverse group of students which whom they will be interacting, not only other ELL students but also general education students who may share their same interests. The students’ performance on standardized test will show their level of improvement in the areas of comprehension, reading and math. Parents will be able to follow their students’ progress as they will be notified of their progress. My fundraising strategy was to highlight the need for this new technology in order to close the achievement gap that exist among financially disadvantaged and English Language Learners.
I learned from completing that there are several emerging technologies and one has to perform a quality amount of research in order to effectively assess the most effective for each school needs. Also, in the future I would involve the parents and other stakeholders and better explain the need for technology in the language acquisition classroom. The impact of this technology would be assessed based on the data gathered by the App itself, then shared with the administrative team. This new technology aligns with the SIP because there are several goals in the plan that underline the need for the use of new and improved technology in the classroom.
