The Engaged Learning Project was created for ITEC 7400. The purpose for this artifact was for the students to acquire knowledge of the different cultures we study in the Spanish classes. My individual contribution was the focus that I placed on the meaningful use of technology by the students, and the integration for the use of technology to develop their language acquisition skills.
This artifact demonstrate mastery of this standard because it shows how I model and facilitate classroom management by implementing a real-life and authentic set of tasks that are research-based strategies that maintain student engagement. For example, on day one, the students were exposed to the project through a presentation created to explain the different tasks. This artifact demonstrate mastery of this standard because it shows how I model and facilitate effective collaborative learning with the use of Web 2.0 tools, for example I use Google Classroom to promote collaboration among students because this tool allows the students to work together in the same presentation while giving each other feedback on the topics at the same time.
I learned from completing this artifact that classroom management in part is utilizing engaged learning strategies to maintain students engaged in the task they are performing. What I would have done different to improve the quality of the artifact is the use of expert in the fields, such as musicians and restauranteurs.
The work that went into creating this artifact impacted school improvement, faculty development, and student learning because I delivered and implemented Professional Learning and Development sessions to our faculty that improved their understanding of what it is to utilize technology in the classroom meaningfully. This impact can be assessed by students’ surveys on their level of interest in the subjects explored in the project.
