2.1 Content Standards & Student Technology Standards
Candidates model and facilitate the design and implementation of technology-enhanced learning experiences aligned with student content standards and student technology standards. (PSC 2.1/ISTE 2a)
This artifact, Internet Lesson Plan, was created during the Internet Tools in the Classroom (ITEC 7430) class. During the design stage of this artifact, I pre-planned, planned, researched, and developed a technology rich lesson with the Web 2.0 tools needed for the implementation of a technology-enhanced lesson that was relevant, engaging, and aligned with the content standards as well as the ISTE standards of technology. The purpose of this lesson was to enhance the students’ learning experiences with technology. This lesson is aligned with the standards from the Professional Standards Commission (PSC), the International Society for Technology Education (ISTE) and the National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETS-S). This development allowed me to implement high levels of technology in my classroom and facilitated the coaching of other teachers who were interested in this high level of technology tasks. This lesson plan’s intention was to increase the students’ knowledge of how to work in a digital environment, while collaborating with other students. The implementation of this lesson allowed me to engage students and teach them how to become better digital citizens. The design and implementation of this lesson in my classroom allowed more time in class for discussion, collaboration, and leadership in the part of the students. I collaborated with teachers and coached them through similar tasks, influenced by what I designed and implemented with my students.
This artifact demonstrates the mastery of this standard because it is aligned with the following content related standards:
By developing and implementing this artifact, I learned the importance of including relevant Web 2.0 tools in a 21st century technology lesson, and how these tools are a great asset in developing lessons that are rich in meaningful technology use, not only for the teacher but specially for the students. For future development and implementation of this artifact, I plan to include a curated menu of educational resources so that the students have a variety of vetted material for them to use.
With the design and implementation of this artifact, I created and delivered a series of Professional Learning sessions alongside with the Technology Committee, this design is now part of a series of workshops targeted for teachers at my school who would like to design and implement their own technology-rich lessons.
With the development of this artifact, I was able to conduct a series of workshops with other members of the Technology Committee and School Improvement Team in order to improve our Digital Learning strategies implementation. We continue to develop and deliver Professional Development workshops on how we can incorporate these strategies like the ones I modeled, designed and implemented in my classroom in other content areas in my school.
In the future, I plan to modify the implementation this particular artifact to include more of the Web 2.0 projects I developed, in my own classroom and share them with other teachers during the sessions. The impact will be measured by the number of teachers that become familiar and proficient in the implementation of this type of project in my school.
This artifact demonstrates the mastery of this standard because it is aligned with the following content related standards:
- MLIV.CCC1C Discuss how the viewpoints of people in countries where the target language is spoken are reflected in their practices and products, such as political systems, art, architecture, music, and literature
- MLIV.CU1B Discuss cultural patterns of behavior.
- MLIV.CCC3B Compare linguistic elements of the target language and English, such as the different structures used to express time, tense, and mood.
- MLIV.CCC4A Discuss information acquired through the use of media, entertainment, and technology in the target language.
- Students understand the fundamental concepts of technology operations, demonstrate the ability to choose, use and troubleshoot current technologies and are able to transfer their knowledge to explore emerging technologies. (1d)
- Students demonstrate an understanding of and respect for the rights and obligations of using and sharing intellectual property. (2b)
- Students plan and employ effective research strategies to locate information and other resources for their intellectual or creative pursuits. (3a)
- The students evaluate the accuracy, perspective, credibility and relevance of information, media, data or other resources. (3b)
- Students select and use digital tools to plan and manage a design process that considers design constraints and calculated risks. (4b)
