Artifact: Online Learning Module
:
Reflection:
This artifact is the Online Learning Module. It was developed for the Introduction to Online Learning ITEC 7480 course. The purpose of this artifact was to design, develop and implement and online module to properly model and facilitate the implementation of a meaningful learning Module for Blended Learning/Online Learning in the classroom. My contributions to this artifact were the employment of engaging pedagogies that included research-based best practices for instructional design and the organization of online educational resources to make the tasks more accessible to students.
This artifact demonstrates mastery of the standard because I was able to model and facilitate the use of effective digital resources that enhanced the students’ higher order of thinking skills, to the effect that the students researched and collected information through the use of digital tools, analyzed the information and presented their findings in ways that facilitated their problem-solving and decision making skills. Through these series of tasks in the project, the students must move through the processes of achieving high levels of mental habits of mind. At the same time, this artifact demonstrates mastery of the standard because the process is focused on a high level of student engagement based on the International Association for K-12 Online Learning (iNACOL), rubrics and standards.
I learned through the process of completing this artifact that a successful Online Module must model and facilitate the integration of multi-cultural education, that the content is accurate, current and free of bias or advertising. I ensured that the course supports the development of higher order of thinking skills in the students and the course design reflects a clear understanding of all students’ needs and incorporates varied ways to learn and master the curriculum. With this development of the Module I incorporated the elements of instructional design to improve alignment of objectives, instruction, and assessments.
I would have done differently the way that students prove mastery of the standard, such as including multiple means of proving mastery of the standards and focus more on student choice. The work that went into creating this artifact impacted school improvement because I collaborated with the Technology Committee at my school to deliver Professional Learning sessions to the staff. This impact will be assessed by collecting and examining student data through the module generated data, student feedback through surveys and reflection on the tasks.
